Compress video
Make a video smaller.
How to compress video
Phone videos are often too big to send on WhatsApp or attach to an email. This tool re-encodes your video as an H.264 MP4, which plays on almost every phone and laptop, and keeps the original sound as it is. The resolution stays the same. If your clip is already compressed as far as it can go, we tell you instead of handing back a bigger file.
- Upload the video you want to make smaller.
- Pick Smaller file, Balanced or Best quality, or fine-tune the quality slider.
- Press Compress video and download the new MP4 when it is ready.
This tool runs on our servers. Your file travels over an encrypted connection and is deleted automatically 2 hours after processing.
Questions people ask
Will my video become small enough to send on WhatsApp?
Often, yes, but it depends on how long the video is and how it was recorded. Start with Smaller file for the biggest saving, and if it is still too large, trim it to the part you need first.
What format do I get back?
Always an MP4 with H.264 video, the most widely playable combination. The audio track is copied across without being re-encoded, so the sound does not lose quality.
Why did it say my video could not be compressed?
Some videos are already encoded very efficiently, and re-encoding them would make the file larger. When that happens we keep your original and say so. Try the Smaller file preset if you still need it smaller.
Does it reduce the resolution?
No. The width and height stay the same. The saving comes from re-encoding the picture at the quality level you choose.
Is my video kept on your servers?
Video compression runs on our servers, so the file is uploaded for processing. It is deleted 2 hours after processing.
