How to PDF to word

Questions people ask

Can I convert a scanned PDF to Word?

No. Scanned PDFs are pictures of text with no text layer, and we do not offer OCR yet. The tool detects this before converting and stops with a clear message rather than giving you a Word file full of images.

How do I know if my PDF has selectable text?

Open it and try to select a single word with your mouse or finger. If the word highlights, the PDF has a text layer and will convert. If the whole page highlights like a photo, it is a scan.

Will the formatting match my original PDF?

The text comes back editable and the page layout is rebuilt as closely as the converter can manage. PDFs do not store paragraphs the way Word does, so check spacing and line breaks before you send the file on.

My PDF is password protected. Will it work?

Not directly. Remove the password first with Unlock PDF, using the password you already know, then convert the unlocked copy.

Is my file kept on your servers?

The conversion runs on our servers, so the file is uploaded. It is deleted 2 hours after processing.

Is this free, and does the Word file have a watermark?
