How to add page numbers to PDF
Project reports, theses and tender documents usually need numbered pages, and the cover and contents pages should stay blank. Pick bottom centre, bottom right or top right, choose a style from plain 12 to Page 12 of 40 or roman numerals, skip the first few pages and start counting from any number. A preview tells you what the last page will read.
- Choose the PDF you want to number.
- Pick the position and format, and set pages to skip and the starting number.
- Download the numbered PDF.

Questions people ask
How do I leave the cover page unnumbered?
Set Skip first to the number of front pages. If you skip 2 and start at 1, the third sheet shows 1.
What does Page X of Y count?
It counts only the numbered pages, so with two pages skipped in a 40-page file the last page reads Page 38 of 38.
Will the numbers clash with a binding or hole punch?
Turn on Leave a wider margin to move the numbers further in from the page edge. This is useful for spiral-bound project reports and files that go into a ring binder.
Does it work on scanned pages that were rotated?
Yes. The number is placed where the reader sees the corner, taking the page's rotation into account.
Is my report uploaded anywhere?
No. Numbering runs entirely in your browser, and the document stays on your device. You download a new numbered copy, and your original file is left unchanged.
