How to remove EXIF data

Most phone photos quietly record where they were taken, which phone took them and exactly when. Anyone who gets the original file can read that. This tool removes that hidden data from JPG and PNG photos without touching the picture itself, and it works inside your browser, so the photo is never uploaded.

  1. Add one JPG or PNG photo.
  2. Check the list of what will be removed: location, device and camera details, date and time, and other tags.
  3. Click Strip metadata and download the cleaned photo.

Runs in your browser. Your file is processed on your own device and is never uploaded to our servers.

Questions people ask

What exactly gets removed?

GPS coordinates, phone or camera make and model, lens and camera settings, the date and time taken, software tags, unique identifiers and embedded thumbnails.

Will removing EXIF data reduce the photo quality?

No. The image data is copied byte for byte and only the metadata is rewritten, so the picture is exactly the same.

Why is my photo still the right way up?

The orientation tag is kept on purpose, because deleting it would turn portrait photos sideways. The colour profile is also kept so colours look right. Neither identifies you.

When should I remove EXIF data?

Before sharing an original photo file with people you do not know, such as a rental or selling listing, a public post or a file sent as a document, especially if it was taken at home.

Which file types are supported?

JPG and PNG, one photo at a time. Convert other formats to one of these first, and nothing is uploaded at any point.
